Warm-Up for the Weekend

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Friday, 2/26- Partly Sunny – High 44˚ / Tonight – Clouds Gradually Clearing – Low 30˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! After a busy week of roller coaster weather, I think I have a forecast that will satisfy many: Warmer days are ahead.

We’ve seen a bit of everything this week – from snow to rain, from temperatures in the 60s to the 30s. We will continue to see below-average temperatures (as much as 10° below the climate normal) for our highs today, but peaks of sun will make for a positive change from the overcast skies we’ve had.

Temperatures overnight will drop to right around the 30° mark, with clouds clearing by dawn.

Saturday, 2/27 – Sunny & Pleasant – High 59˚ / Saturday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 39˚

Now here comes the exciting, yet “boring” part of the forecast… Exciting because I’ll be forecasting for a beautiful weekend, but “boring” in the sense that no big systems will be bringing any kind of chaotic weather to the Bowling Green area.

This will be the second weekend in a row that we have been gifted with very pleasant weather!

Winds will shift to the south by the morning, picking up speed around noon. Southerly winds in conjunction with an approaching upper-level ridge from the west will work to bring temperatures back ABOVE normal, with highs in the upper-50s/low 60s for Bowling Green.

These pleasant temperatures, paired with sunny skies, will make for very comfortable conditions for the last weekend in February. So go out for a hike at Shanty Hollow, or take your run from the gym to the park; Saturday will definitely be a great day to do so.

Saturday night, skies will remain clear with temperatures falling to right round the 40° mark.

Sunday, 2/28- Mostly Sunny – High 70˚ / Sunday Night – Slight Chance of Rain – Low 45˚

If you thought Saturday was nice, wait until you hear Sunday’s forecast… We’re talking temperatures up near 70°! I know, I can’t keep up with Bowling Green weather myself, and it’s my major.

A tight pressure and temperature gradient will cause the southwesterly winds to really pick up, allowing for warmer and more moist air to pour into the region. The reason for these tighter gradients? A deepening low pressure system will be tracking its way eastward towards the Great Lakes by early Sunday.

With winds kicking up and southwesterly flow kicking in, temperatures will likely be several degrees above what the models are forecasting (southerly flow causes many busted forecasts). Therefore, temperatures around 70° are possible and probable! How about that for your February weekend?

Sunny skies will prevail for the first part of the day, before the aforementioned front approaches and causes an increase in cloud cover. This front looks as though it will be a primarily dry one, with only some scattered showers possible overnight. High pressure will build back in by Monday.
