Warmer Weather Upcoming

Real-time BG Radar:

Today: Cold, with mostly sunny skies. Highs around 32ºF. Overnight, skies should be mostly clear, with lows around 28ºF.

First of all, you all will likely be waking up to very cold temps this morning. With the dense snowpack in place, it is likely that temperatures will be in and around 5ºF, and maybe lower. Check out the temps at the newly updated, Kentucky Mesonet Website!

Secondly, the weather today is gonna be pretty dag on nice. With the crazy event Friday, these past couple days being quiet has been a real treat to meteorologists, road crews and the public in general. Two snows within a 3 days period is stressful! Today looks to be sunny, with highs maxing out in the lower 30s.

Overnight, it looks like skies will remain mostly clear. Our next weather maker will begin to move in from the west, shifting winds to the south and southwest. This will keep temps only in the upper 20s for lows.

Tomorrow: Clouds increasing, with rain possible in the afternoon. Highs around 47ºF. Mon. night: Cloudy, with showers. Lows around 35ºF.

I’m really sad about Monday. Really sad. It was supposed to be the first day of the semester, but in a wise move, WKU canceled classes.

This was to make it easier for students living a ways away from Campus to make it there easily in one piece. I am still sad. Oh well.

Monday will be the most “Kentucky Weather” day ever. We’ll be deeply entrenched in the warm sector of a northeastward moving low pressure system, and this will put us in pretty strong southerly flow.

This could make the day interesting for a couple reasons. One, this will increase temperatures into the upper 40s, and may even make a run towards the 50s! This will come only days after we picked up 12″ of snowfall. Model guidance isn’t showing temps getting that high at the moment, but southwesterly winds tend to increase temps higher than guidance shows.

The second reason is that this could form some fog on Monday morning and into the afternoon. With the thick, cold snowpack in place across the region, warmer air will advect over this, and this is a pretty classic set up for advection fog. It is just something to watch for.

Weirdly enough, you likely also won’t see the highest temps during the day. With the low making its closest approach to the region late in the evening on Monday, the warmest temps will likely be around midnight on Tuesday.

Otherwise, look for clouds to increase throughout the day, with showers making their appearance into the evening and overnight hours. Temps will drop behind a cold front overnight, falling to the mid 30s.

Tuesday: Cooler, with decreasing showers. Highs around 45ºF. Tues. night: Partly to mostly cloudy, with lows falling to around 29ºF

Well, Tuesday looks much less interesting than Monday is. Most of the precip looks to be exiting by mid morning Tuesday, but a shortwave looks to be moving through early morning, which should push another band of showers through.

Highs Monday likely will peak right after midnight, in the mid 40s. Overnight, we will likely see lows falling into the upper 20s, under mostly cloudy skies.

Well, that is a wrap on this forecast! Students, be careful traveling back to BG. Everyone else, have a safe Sunday. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest on Twitter.
