Wet and Windy Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 11/18 – Rainy & WINDY – High 65˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 44˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! The wet and windy weather continues today – so windy, in fact that the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory valid through 3 PM CST. According to the National Weather Service,

A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE 30 TO 39 MPH OR GUSTS WILL RANGE BETWEEN 40 AND 57 MPH. WINDS OF THESE MAGNITUDES COULD LEAD TO TREE DAMAGE POSSIBLY LEADING TO ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES.

We’ll be looking more at the gust part of the description, as sustained winds are forecasted to reach between 15 and 25 mph.

Strong winds throughout the upper and mid-levels of the atmosphere will couple with a tight pressure gradient at the surface (pressure lines are really close together) to bring us a very wet and rainy hump day to Bowling Green.

The start of the week hasn’t been too great either, with a dreary Monday and a warmer, but windy Tuesday. Today’s weather conditions won’t make it any easier to step out of the house, but be sure to sport those rain boots and rain jackets because an umbrella may not fair too well in these windy conditions. Guess you could always use it as a dance prop?

With plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, we could see widespread rain totals between 1-2 inches across Kentucky. The bulk of this rain will begin around 8 or 9 AM, and exit by 3 or 4 PM.

More than the heavy rain, however, is the wind. Gusts could potentially reach 40 mph, so be cautious of any downed power lines or limbs, and keep two hands on the wheel when driving. We will hit our maximum temperatures before the onset of rain this morning with highs in the low to mid-60s due to strong southerly flow. Tonight, conditions will be partly cloudy with lows in the mid-40s.

Thursday, 11/19 – Mostly Sunny – High 59˚ / Thursday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 35˚

Conditions will begin to die down a bit by Thursday, with winds diminishing and clouds giving way to mostly sunny skies. A cold front will swing through on Thursday, with winds switching direction by the afternoon. This will usher in cooler temperatures into Bowling Green for the end of the week and weekend.

Highs on Thursday may still hit 60° (if not, the upper 50s) before dropping into the mid-30s overnight. This may sound a bit chilly, but the average low temperature for this time of year is 37° so we’re only a few degrees off.

Friday 11/20 – Mostly Sunny – High 54˚ / Friday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 36˚

High pressure will build back into our region on Friday, keeping us dry and mostly sunny for the end of the workweek. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Thursday’s temps due to the passage of the cold front and the lag of cooler air infiltrating behind it. Highs will struggle to hit the mid-50s with even cooler temperatures expected for the weekend.

Clouds will begin to build Friday night ahead of yet another system. This one, however, looks much, much weaker than Wednesday’s and will present us with just a slight chance of showers on Saturday.
