Monday Bowling Green Weather Update

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 11/9 – Scattered Showers – High 53° / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Isol’d Showers – Low 47°

A broad cut off low and upper level trough is bringing scattered showers to the region today. This feature will begin to move away from the region during the morning hours, however rain still appears very likely for much of the day. Highs will struggle to make it to the mid 50s. All in all, a great Monday, right?

Showers will become more isolated in the overnight hours as the upper level feature begins to move to the east of the region. Mostly cloudy conditions will remain in place with a low around 47°.

Tuesday 11/10 – AM Clouds; Partly Cloudy PM – High 60° / Tue Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 43°

Tuesday morning will likely bring some clouds to the region, however these should break up nicely as the upper level feature continues to move away. Low to mid-level ridging will combine with strong westerly winds aloft to bring warmer temperatures to the region. Highs will be around 60°, although a few degrees above 60° will likely happen across some places in south-central Kentucky.

Tuesday night will bring partly cloudy skies and a low around 43°.

Wednesday 11/11 – Partly Cloudy; Windy – High 74° / Wed Night – Thunderstorms Likely – Low 54°

A somewhat complicated forecast is on tap for Wednesday. Wednesday morning, a large upper level trough will be located to the west of the region. Widespread divergence across eastern Kansas, eastern Oklahoma, and western Missouri will likely lead to strong cyclogenesis in Kansas.

This feature will quickly advance to the east. This means we will become established in the warm sector of the strong low pressure system. Southerly surface winds, as well as in the low levels; as well as partly cloudy skies will help warm us into the low 70s.

Scattered thunderstorms will form along the leading edge of the cold front. Given meager instability values, but very robust synoptic forcing, I expect some of these storms to be strong to severe to the west of the region. As the cold front advances to the east, severe thunderstorms may still be possible in our area. Gusty winds, and perhaps an isolated tornado are the main threats overnight. Lows will be in the mid 50s. The Storm Prediction Center currently has our area in a “slight” risk of severe weather, with an “enhanced” risk just to our west.

It should be noted that if moisture return is greater than expected, conditions may become more unstable across the region, which will lead to a higher severe weather chance. This needs to be closely monitored over the next few days.

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Don’t forget to take the umbrella this morning!
