Your Fantasy Football Forecast

The NFL season is quickly approaching, which means that we get to all play fantasy football again! I am actually in a league this year, so my own forecasts will actually help me out. Anyways, many of you love fantasy sports, so this is your weekly guide to what the weather will be like for your teams. A couple weeks ago, I did an overview of the climatology of NFL cities and what to expect going into the season for them. This is the weekly form of that, game by game.

What I will do is give the game, the time and then a bit of commentary on the game itself. The link that is within the game title itself is a link to the nfl.com preview. Then I will give a brief overview of why I made the forecast I did. The gametime forecast will then follow, and I will have scale of 1-10 on the odds that the weather significantly impacts your players (1 being the least and 10 the most).

Cincinnati @ Buffalo; 12 PM:

First of all, I don’t know who to root for. Apparently, the Bengals are awesome. But Buffalo is just a surprisingly good team (to me, at least). The bengals are undefeated, but have to lose at some point. They go down this weekend.

Weatherwise, it is looking chilly. Maybe chilly doesn’t describe it. It looks downright cold on Sunday in Buffalo, which will surely have an impact on any of your players in this game. Under a cold high pressure, expect some cloud cover and cold temps.

Gametime forecast: Cold, and partly cloudy. Temps in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Weather impact: 5/10 due to cold.

Denver @ Cleveland; 12 PM:

Well….this outta be an interesting game. Denver is undefeated (which doesn’t surprise me), and Cleveland is, well, Cleveland.

I hope Denver enjoys their trip to a bad city with bad weather. Much like Buffalo, the weather is just gonna be uncomfortable. It is gonna be downright cold for this game. The same cold air mass will be effecting Cleveland, and giving them come clouds and isolated shower chances.

Gametime forecast: Cold, with an isolated chance of a shower or two. Temps in the lower 40s. Weather impact: 4/10 due to cold.

Chicago @ Detroit; 12 PM:

DOME. It’s a good thing this one is in a dome because it would also be cold.

Domes are sort of a mystery. They are some of the only places on Earth in which you can control the atmosphere. You may say, “Well Pierce, can’t you do that with your home?” Good point. Wrong, though. Domes are huge, and run by a lot of money. Nice try.

Gametime forecast: Probably warmer than outside. No weather impact.

Houston @ Jacksonville; 12 PM:

I do wish that this game was at Houston, if only because they would be playing in a dome.

Also: this game is going to be awful. JJ Watt needs to just become the head coach, GM, owner and QB of the Texans, because they are just bad. Luckily for them, Jacksonville is just as bad, and this game will probably end in a tie.

Gametime forecast: Mostly cloudy, with isolated showers. Temps in the mid to upper 60s. Weather impact: 3/10 due to possible showers.

Kansas City @ Minnesota; 12 PM:

DOME. I sort of wish I could live in a dome.

As you may be able to infer, there is little weather that will effect the players in this one. The fans, however, could all exhale at once, creating some wind.

Gametime forecast: Glorious. No weather impact.

Miami @ Tennessee; 12 PM:

Tennessee is awesome. Great state, with a promising football team. I really do hope they win this game, as Miami is kinda lame.

The fact that it’s gonna be pretty cold won’t hurt, either. Miami plays in a nice climate, and Tennessee plays in a not-so-nice climate. This weekend, Nashville is experiencing the same air mass that Cleveland and Buffalo are seeing.

Gametime forecast: Mostly sunny, with temps in the mid 50s. Weather impact: 1/10.

Washington @ NYJ; 12 PM

Again, another team that I am shocked is good. The jets are 3-1 and I just don’t know how. I mean, I haven’t watched them play this year, so maybe they are just awesome. But I doubt that.

Weather wise, this game looks pretty bad too. Isolated showers, clouds and cool temps will dominate.

Gametime forecast: Mostly cloudy, with a chance of showers. Temps in the mid and upper 40s. Weather impact: 4/10 due to cool weather.

Arizona @ Pittsburgh; 12 PM:

Arizona is good. Pittsburgh is mediocre. Wanna know the big factor in this game? The weather!

Arizona plays in a set environment, and won’t be used to an environment as cold as this one will be. So that is a plus for Pittsburgh.

Gametime forecast: Mostly cloudy, with temps in the mid 40s. Weather impact: 5/10 due to temperatures.

Carolina @ Seattle; 3:05 PM:

Seattle is such a let down right now. They make the Super Bowl two years in a row, and then they go 2-3. Meanwhile, Carolina is over there going 4-0.

This seems to be a game not in Seattle’s favor. Maybe Pete Carroll will go back to USC. The weather will be very Seattle-like, with mostly cloudy skies and cool temps.

Gametime forecast: Cloudy, with showers. Temps in the mid 60s. Weather impact: 5/10 due to showers.

Baltimore @ San Francisco; 3:25 PM:

San Francisco is looking a lot like Seattle, with cloudy skies and rain showers dotting the skies. I wouldn’t really expect this to be an interesting game, as Jim Harbough no longer coaches the 49ers, and both teams suck.

Gametime forecast: Partly to mostly cloudy, and isolated showers. Temps in the mid to upper 60s.

San Diego @ Green Bay; 3:25 PM:

Green Bay should be able to wallop San Diego. It will be cold, and they have Randall Cobb. Any team with Cobb is set for success.

Anyways, the cold will definitely be a factor in this one. It should be pretty nice out, but very cool. Because San Diego is essentially a dome outside, they should have difficulty with that.

Gametime forecast: Mostly sunny, with temps in the min 40s. Weather impact: 5/10 due to temperatures.

New England @ Indianapolis; 7:30 PM:

I am very glad this is in a dome. That makes this big game even bigger. This is a very big game, actually.

Because this is in a dome, these two teams will not be impacted by the elements. Celebrate!

Gametime forecast: Really nice, and touchdowns. No weather impact.

NYG @ Philadelphia; 7:30 PM:

This is a game that I just really don’t care about either way. I just really don’t care about this game. It makes me wanna go to sleep.

The weather looks nice, though. Both teams will have to play in the cold weather, but no precipitation is likely.

Gametime forecast: Mostly clear, with temps in the lower 40s.
