Tuesday Brings Wet Weather

Real-time radar:

Today: Rain. High of 74ºF. Tonight: Showers continuing. Mostly cloudy, with lows around 65ºF.

Oh man. We have a bunch of moisture being slung our way, and a strong cold front moving our way?

That is a recipe for heavy rainfall. There is a tropical system that is slowly moving northward through the Gulf of Mexico, and it is throwing tons and tons of moisture our way. This, combined with a cold front moving southeastward, will make for a lot of wet weather today.

Go ahead and make sure you have a rain jacket and umbrella, because the rain should already be falling by the time you’re heading into work this morning.

Expect it to continue into the afternoon and evening, with clouds being prevalent throughout the day, and temps only climbing into the mid 70s. That part has me like…

As we head into the overnight hours, showers still look to be a threat as the cold front won’t be passing through until the morning hours on Wednesday. However, the higher moisture should be moving eastward with the tropical low, so they should be light showers. Look for temps in the mid 60s for lows.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, with an isolated shower or two. High around 73ºF. Wed. night: Skies clearing, with lows falling to around 54ºF.

This is the day. The day that we have all been waiting for. It may rain on this day, but who cares. THIS IS WHAT ALL OF YOU CARE ABOUT.

This is the day that the cold front that gives us our first real shot of cool, autumn air arrives. And I am so hype about that.

The cold front looks to push through early to mid-morning on Wednesday, and it will usher in a substantially different air mass. You may see some isolated showers throughout your day, but overall, it should remain mostly cloudy.

Temperatures will only end up in the low to mid 70s, under the cloudy skies. Overnight, we really see the change as lows dip into the mid 50s.

Thursday: Partly cloudy and breezy, with a high of 68ºF. Thur. night: Partly to mostly cloudy, with a low of 47ºF.

Thursday, to me, is pretty up in the air at this point. There are several scenarios that could occur.

  • It could stay cloudy and really cool
  • It could be really sunny, and warmer
  • It could rain

Thursday and the days following it will be likely be heavily influenced by what happens with Tropical Storm Joaquin and its remnants. Some models are depicting it curving quickly into the coast (A la Hurricane Sandy), but some have it moving more northeastward, and impacting their weather significantly.

Either way, I have Thursday being partly cloudy at the minimum, with highs only reaching the upper 60s. It should be pretty breezy today, as the pressure gradient is gonna be pretty tight over the region.

Overnight, look for it to become partly to mostly cloudy, with lows in the mid 40s.
