Tornadoes Confirmed in Kentucky

Yesterday, July 14th, the National Weather Service in Louisville conducted a storm survey across three counties in south central Kentucky. Their findings were released earlier this afternoon in a public information statement.

Based on the damage the team surveyed from the storms Monday, two EF-0 tornadoes were confirmed, as well as one EF-1 tornado.

Green County saw the EF-1 tornado around 6:20 PM EDT Monday. This tornado was estimated to have been on the ground for 2 minutes, in which it traveled 1.1 miles. The 95-105 mph winds reportedly destroyed two barns and a mobile home, and caused damage to many roofs.

An EF-0 tornado was confirmed in Adair County near Breeding and was also on the ground for 2 minutes. In the 1.5 miles that this tornado traveled, it destroyed one outbuilding and uprooted/snapped many tree limbs.

Lastly, Cumberland County saw an EF-0 tornado Monday evening before it crossed over the state line into Tennessee. According to NWS storm survey:

There was actually considerable more tree damage in southwest Cumberland County resulting from a prolonged period (15-20 minutes) of 60-70 mph winds that occurred in conjunction with the storm that produced this tornado. A conservative estimate of several hundred healthy large trees were uprooted or had their trunks snapped by these winds in a 2-mile wide swath over the forested southwest corner of the county.

Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were caused as a result of these storms. To read the entire storm survey, visit NWS Louisville’s website.
