Severe Storms Possible for Bowling Green Weather

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 7/12 – Scattered AM Thunderstorms; Partly Cloudy; Hot – High 91° / Tonight – Partly Cloudy; Isolated Thunderstorms – Low 75°

Scattered thunderstorms will likely be in and around the region this morning as overnight thunderstorm complexes continue to weaken as they move south. As the thunderstorms move out of the region during the late morning hours, partly cloudy skies will likely move across much of the region.

Conditions will be pretty hot and humid across the region as afternoon highs will be around 91°, although they will feel more like 95° to 100° due to the humidity.

A few isolated thunderstorms may form during the late evening an overnight hours. These storms may pose a risk of isolated large hail and damaging wind. However, widespread severe storms are not anticipated. Lows will be in the mid 70s.

Monday 7/13 – Severe Storms Possible; Hot – High 92° / Mon Night – Severe Storms Possible – Low 77°

A unique weather forecast is on the table for Monday. Any thunderstorms that form on Sunday night will likely lay out boundaries. With south-central Kentucky being placed in a warm, moist environment moderate to high instability values have been established across the region. Thunderstorms may once again form along these boundaries across the region. There is low confidence in this aspect of the forecast due to capping being in place across the region.

Another scenario, and more likely, is that a large cluster of thunderstorms will form to the north of the region during the afternoon on Monday. This cluster of storms will ride southwest in south-central Kentucky by around late evening and early overnight.

Conditions appear to warrant some concern for severe thunderstorms. The main hazards will be damaging wind gusts, isolated large hail, as well as a chance for an isolated tornado. The most obvious threat will be very heavy rain and frequent lightning. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has placed south-central Kentucky in an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms.

Tuesday 7/14 – Severe Storms Possible; Hot – High 95° / Tue Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 72°

The boundary that the large cluster of storms may form along on Monday will drift further south across the region on Tuesday. This means that forcing may be a bit stronger for storms to form in the region on Tuesday. We will still be in a highly unstable environment, thus severe weather is still on the table for Tuesday.

However, given that we are three days from Tuesday and the forecast will likely change from now to then, I won’t go into much more detail. Conditions will be hot and humid with a high around 95°, however it will feel more like 100°-105° given the humidity.
