Texas And Oklahoma Were A Lake Last Month

Much like our weather pattern in April, Oklahoma and Texas saw copious amounts of rain last month. And I actually think that copious is an understatement. System after system impacted the states, and they dumped rain. With a wide open Gulf of Mexico to work with, combined with a stream of pacific moisture, the region set all-time records for rainfall during the month.

Here are some absurd stats from the month of May across the region:

• 26 flood gages are currently at a moderate or higher flood stage in Texas and Oklahoma. That doesn’t count the gages that were at that point at some point in May.
• OKC beat their wettest month on record by 4.82″ of rain.
• Lawton, Oklahoma saw over 20 inches of rain.
• Gainsville, Texas saw almost 30 inches of rain!
• Richmond, Texas received 14.22″ more than normal on rainfall.
• According to CNN, enough rainfall fell to cover all of Texas 8″ deep in water.

Well, I do have to say, at least they didn’t have 16″ of rain in two days. But that story is for another day.
