Friday Afternoon Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

This Afternoon 5/15 – Isolated Storms; Breezy – High 86˚ / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy;  Isolated Storms – Low 67˚

3pm 85˚ –6pm 79˚ – 9pm 76˚ – 12am 73˚ – 3am 70˚– 6am 67˚

A warm and breezy afternoon is ongoing across south-central Kentucky as southerly winds pump moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into our region. A cutoff low is currently circulating over the western U.S. and divergence in the jet stream ahead of the low will bring rounds of thunderstorm chances to Kentucky this weekend.

Cumulus clouds have already popped up this afternoon along with a few isolated thunderstorms as well. Not everyone will see rain today, but anyone who gets caught out under a quick-hitting storm could see a brief downpour. Rainfall amounts throughout the afternoon should remain below 0.1″

A warm and muggy night is expected overnight under mostly cloudy skies. Isolated showers and storms will be possible with similar rainfall totals to this afternoon.

Saturday, 5/16 – Sct’d Showers & Storms; Cloudy – High 78˚ / Saturday Night – Iso’d Showers & Storms – Low 67˚

Expect more clouds and increased precipitation chances tomorrow as a weak shortwave will dig to our northwest resulting in better lift for thunderstorm development. Multiple rounds of showers and storms will be possible with highs struggling to reach 80°. No severe weather is expected, but some storms could contain very heavy rain as precipitable water values are expected to near 2.00″. Rainfall amounts of 0.25-0.5″ are expected with locally heavier amounts possible.

Precipitation coverage will wane overnight, but a few isolated showers and storms can’t be ruled out. Otherwise, another muggy night will be on the way with low temperatures hovering in the upper 60s.

Sunday, 5/17 – Sct’d Showers & Storms; Breezy; Cloudy – High 84˚ / Sunday Night – Sct’d Showers & Storms – Low 67˚

Unfortunately, southerly winds will continue pumping moisture into the region on Sunday and there won’t be much change in the forecast as another rainy day is expected.

Rainfall amounts of up to 0.25″ are expected with locally heavier amounts possible once again. This forecast is really starting to sound like a broken record. Fortunately, a weak cold front will pass through Kentucky sometime late on Monday which will bring an end to the wet pattern.
