Tropics Heating Up

Even though the Atlantic Hurricane season does not officially begin until June 1, the tropics are already heating up with the National Hurricane Center monitoring a disturbance off the eastern coast of Florida. Currently, an area of low pressure is situated between Miami, FL and the Bahamas and this low has triggered showers and thunderstorms around the region.

The NHC has given this disturbance a 60% chance of strengthening into at least a tropical depression over the next 48 hours with their morning update. The Hurricane Hunters were considering flying into the storm this afternoon to gather data, but they have since decided to hold off and maybe investigate the storm tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see if this area of low pressure is able to strengthen over the coming days. Regardless rain looks like a good bet across parts of the southeast U.S.
