Southern Plains Drought Relief

Much of the western U.S. stretching into the southern Great Plains have been experiencing a long term drought. But good news for the folks in Texas and Oklahoma, as rain looks to continue across the two states the next several days. Up to two inches of rain is likely in parts of Oklahoma into the Texas Panhandle.

The current drought monitor shows lots of red colors across Oklahoma and Texas. The light red means extreme drought while the dark red is exceptional drought. Two inches of rain won’t bust this drought, but it will help many farmers with the spring growing season.

The Weather Prediction Center shows moderate rainfall totals through Friday across the areas that are in the extreme and exceptional drought.

These area have actually picked up decent amounts of rain over the past week, especially along the Texas and Oklahoma boarder where some folks have received over 5 inches of rain this past week.
