Monday Morning Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time BG radar:

Today 3/9 – Iso’d PM Showers; Mostly Cloudy – High 56° / Tonight – Rain; Cloudy – Low 44°

6am 44˚ – 9am 45˚ – 12pm 51˚ – 3pm 56˚ – 6pm 54˚

Good morning, the main weather story this week will be the abundance of rainfall southern Kentucky will have to deal with this week. Currently, temperatures are in the middle 40s under mostly cloudy skies.

As you can see on our radar above, precipitation continues to impact northern Tennessee this morning. Fortunately, high pressure located over the Ohio Valley is helping to keep precipitation south of the KY/TN border.

Low pressure will start to form in the Gulf of Mexico today and slowly drift to the northeast. As this occurs, clouds will continue to hang around the area with a few showers moving into southern Kentucky this afternoon. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the middle to upper 50s depending on the extent of the cloud cover.

Precipitation will continue to spread north overnight, with steady rainfall becoming likely after sunset. Rainfall totals overnight could approach 0.5″ by daybreak tomorrow. Cloud cover will moderate temperatures overnight, with lows falling into the 40s.

Tuesday 3/10 – Rain  – High 59° / Tue Night – Rain; Cloudy – Low 47°

The heaviest rain will occur on Tuesday with low pressure located near Mississippi. Precipitable water values will be approaching values more suitable for late spring indicating that rain could be heavy at times tomorrow.

Temperatures will approach the 60º mark tomorrow afternoon as warm and moist air is pulled from the Gulf of Mexico. A few rumbles of thunder are possible tomorrow as rain continues to fall.

Rain will continue overnight tomorrow as this disturbance continues to move off to the east. Total rainfall amounts tomorrow will range from 1-1.5″ with isolate locations approaching 2″ so we will have to monitor the flooding concern closely.

Wednesday 3/11 – AM Sct’d Showers; Mostly Cloudy – High 60° / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 48°

We can expect some scattered showers during the morning hours on Wednesday before rainfall comes to an end around noon. Expect a mix of clouds and sun during the afternoon hours with high temperatures making another run at 60º.

Wednesday will be our “in-between systems,” day as we can expect a break in the rainfall by Wednesday night. Low temperatures will only fall into the upper 40s under mostly cloudy skies Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, split flow in the jet stream has allowed for divergence aloft over our area which supports the idea of another area of low pressure developing over the deep South and bringing rainfall to the area on Thursday and Friday. It is going to be a rainy week folks.
