Relief in Sight for Bowling Green Weather

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 3/1 – Mostly Cloudy; Scattered Showers – High 46° / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Isolated Freezing Drizzle – Low 34°

Welcome to the first day of March. I wish I had a better weather forecast for you, but unfortunately, I don’t. But, at least it won’t be stupidly cold throughout the day. Southerly winds in the lower levels of the atmosphere will help keep conditions relatively warm compared to what we’ve become accustomed to; expect a high around 46°.

However, this southerly flow will also bring some moisture with it, which could also bring about some conditions for a few scattered showers throughout the day.

The showers should generally move to the east of I-65 during the evening and overnight hours, but a stray showers is not out of the question. A cold front will also move through the region that will drop temperatures back into the low 30s for overnight lows.  This may result in a few isolated patches of freezing drizzle.

Drive carefully on the Monday morning commute.

Monday 3/2 – Partly Cloudy; Cool – High 40° / Mon Night – Mostly Cloudy; Isolated Showers – Low 38°

High pressure will move into the region on Monday, which should allow all of the rain to move out of the region. A few breaks in the clouds from time to time will also be possible. However, the front will knock our temperatures back a few degrees. Only expect the high temperature to struggle past 40°.

Monday night will bring an increase of moisture to the region as low pressure begins to develop to our southwest. Mostly cloudy skies seem possible, as well as an isolated shower or two. Coverage of rain will likely increase late in the night and into Tuesday morning. Lows will be around 38°.

Tuesday 3/3 – Mostly Cloudy; Warm; Rainy – High 64° / Tues Night – Rainy; Warm – Low 50°

It is starting to look like Tuesday could be the warmest day we’ve seen since February 7th, which got up to 64.4° according to the Kentucky Mesonet. Yeah, that’s also the last time it got above 60, so we’ve had a string of 23 days of temperatures below 60°. I mean, I guess it is winter. Oh well.

Southerly to southwesterly flow in almost all levels of the atmosphere will really bring in warm air to the region. Model guidance seems to struggle with strong southern and southwesterly flow events, so I tweaked the high up a few degrees from model output to around 64°. If we get less in the way of rain and cloud cover, we may very well make a run at 70°, but only time will tell.

According to the models now though, Tuesday looks very soggy to say the least. A widespread shield of rain will spread into the region. The rain could be heavy at times as precipitable water values will be around 1.5″, which is rather high for this time of year. All in all, around 1″ to just over 1″ is possible between now and 6 AM Wednesday.

Instability values are rather meager, but do increase sufficiently in the evening and night hours, primarily before 3 AM to yield a few flashes of lightning and claps of thunder. Right now, it doesn’t look like anything too major, but if I see a hint of lightning I’m going to mention it because honestly, it feels like forever since I’ve heard thunder.

Conditions should remain rather warm during the overnight due to the rain and continuing southerly flow. Lows will only drop to around 50°. A cold front will slowly move through the region, leading to a drop in temperatures on Wednesday.

That’s all I have for now. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Have a great day!
