Sunday Morning Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today 2/22 – Mostly Cloudy – High 34º / Tonight – Cloudy; Flurries Possible – Low 15º

6am 32°– 9am 31˚ – 12pm 32˚ – 3pm 34˚ – 6pm 30˚

Good morning! Watch out for slick spots if you’re traveling, as temperatures have edged back below freezing.  As a result, a traveler’s advisory has been issued for most of Kentucky regarding slick roads and low visibility due to patchy fog.  Again, please be weary of the refreezing of roads.  Take your time on the roads.

Now that this weekend’s winter storm has come to an end, much calmer weather is in store in southern Kentucky.  In contrast to last week, this week’s forecast has meteorologists feeling a little more relaxed…

Plenty of cold air was left behind by this weekend’s system, as the eastern U.S. remains centered in an upper-level trough.  Despite temperatures hovering around freezing this morning, we won’t get much warmer today, with highs expected to range from the lower to mid 30s.

We’re expecting partly to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day, with an increase in cloud cover tonight, as a weak disturbance rotates through the trough.  This disturbance will actually bring the chance for a few flurries (SNOWMAHGAWD) as well, with no accumulation expected.

Low temps will depend on our cloud cover.  I expect lows to drop to the mid teens, with lower readings possible.  If there’s any wet pavement out there, you can bet there will be slick spots on the Monday morning commute.

Monday 2/23 – Partly Cloudy – High 21º / Monday Night – Partly Cloudy & Cold – Low 12º

High pressure will center itself over the Ohio Valley Monday evening, which will lead to frigid conditions to start the work week.  Temps will do all they can to reach the low 20s, with northerly winds of ~10 mph resulting in single digit wind chills.

The surface model below is valid for 6pm Monday evening.  The area of high pressure is evident over southern Indiana:

Skies will remain mostly clear tomorrow night, which will once again allow temperatures to fall into the lower teens….we just can’t seem to shake this cold!

Tuesday 2/24 – Partly Cloudy – High 33º / Tuesday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 20º

Slightly warmer temperatures are expected on Tuesday, as warm air advection takes over, thanks to a disturbance located to our north. Highs will reach the freezing mark under partly cloudy skies during the afternoon.

A cold front will scamper through the Ohio Valley Tuesday night.  This will lead to an increase in cloud cover over south central Kentucky. Winds will turn to the west, causing temperatures to fall close to 20º. At this point, however, it looks like the front will be moisture deprived, and southern Kentucky will remain dry.

Aww shucks, Brad… you’re welcome.

Calm and cold weather looks to continue this week, with our next legit chance at precipitation not arriving until this weekend.
