**Winter Storm Warning in effect from February 20, 3:00 PM CST until February 21, 6:00 AM CST for Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Simpson and Warren County **
Today – Snow Likely – High 26° / Tonight – Snow to Wintry Mix – Low 26°
The temperature will be on the rise throughout the day. By the afternoon we will be in the 20’s! Haven’t seen those in a while! …But really, who wants to go swimming? Not so fast, because another Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the area. Snow will move into the region by mid to late afternoon and produce some light accumulations on the order of a dusting to 2 inches. The NAM 4km points towards pockets of fairly heavy snow moving through the area by the evening hours.
**This storm has the potential to make things very messy. The initial wave will be predominantly snow and could lead to light to moderate accumulations, especially to our north. It will gradually transition to a mixed bag of precip throughout the night as we continue to warm.
Saturday – Wintry Mix/Rain – High 35° / Sat Night – Wintry Mix – Low 32°
Sleet and freezing rain are likely overnight Friday into Saturday. We should eventually see a transition over to plain rain by Saturday afternoon as temperatures climb into the mid 30’s. It is important to note that the models are hovering just above freezing throughout much of the day Saturday. With the current snow pack, temperature may end up being a touch below model guidance. If we remain near freezing at the surface, Freezing Rain becomes a major threat.
The NWS Louisville expects .10 to .15 inches of ice to accumulate with this event. That would be on top of the current snow pack and any additional snow we see Friday. We also have to worry about flooding with this event.
Rainfall amounts on the order of 1 to 3 inches have potential to cause flooding across much of south central Kentucky. Heavy rain on top of the current snow and frozen ground won’t be able to absorb into the ground and will generally all be runoff.
Sunday – Flurries – High 36° / Sun Night – Cloudy – Low 20°
The mess finally moves on by Sunday. In fact we will be much warmer as compared to the past week of living among Snowmageddon. Light snow showers will be possible throughout part of the day, but nothing major by any means. Get out and enjoy the warm weather! …relatively speaking.
