Winter is Not Over in Bowling Green

Today will be dominated by broken cloud cover. Temperatures will warm to the mid 30’s, making it feel like spring time compared to yesterday. Scattered snow showers are possible later this afternoon and into tonight, with a light dusting possible in a few places. No major impacts are expected, but as always, be careful heading out onto the roads when there’s a chance for frozen precip.

Saturday – Scat’d Snow Showers, Windy – High 42° / Sat Night – Windy – Low 12°

Saturday will be the beginning of a more interesting weather pattern across the region. Temps will rebound to the low 40’s before another cold front swings through with an associated clipper system.

This clipper has the potential to bring light snow accumulations to the area, with better chances to our north and east. Bowling Green may start out as rain with the timing of the clipper looking to be around early to mid afternoon. Here’s a look at the NAM simulated radar model, valid for noon Saturday:

The white line shows the relative freezing line, therefore, areas north of the line will have the best chance at seeing snow. With that being said, minor accumulations near a half inch can’t be ruled out in some areas.

Temp values will tank quickly with the passing of this clipper, so again, be weary of slick spots when traveling Saturday afternoon & night.  Anything that falls will stick.

Sunday – COLD – High 24° / Sun Night – Slight Chance for Snow – Low 18°

Sunday brings about drastic changes to the area! The potent cold front that moves through Saturday night will usher Arctic air into the area and will hang around for the day Sunday. High temperatures will top out in the low 20’s and lows overnight will fall into the teens once again.

Another system will move in Sunday evening, bringing an even better shot at snow for south central Kentucky. This system could bring anywhere from a light dusting to a couple inches, depending on its exact track. The NAM shows ample moisture in the area Sunday evening with plenty of cold to allow for all snow.

**On the heels of this system will be another storm coming out of the southwest. This has the potential to impact the region Monday into Tuesday. The track is far from being set in stone, but it’s worth noting the possibility for an accumulating snow event Monday evening through Wednesday.
