Cold Snap On The Horizon

This Afternoon – Cloudy & Dreary – High 42˚ / Tonight – Decreasing Clouds – Low 25˚

3pm 42˚ – 6pm 39˚ – 9pm 34˚ – 12am 30˚ – 3am 28˚ – 6am 25˚

The cold front that dove across the area this morning is now located well to our east.  Cloud cover will stick around through the remainder of the day, with northerly winds behind the front holding afternoon highs to the lower 40s.

The surface map below, valid for 2pm, displays northerly flow keeping cool conditions intact across the area…

Tonight, cloud cover will hang tough, with the possibility of sprinkles/drizzle lingering.  We’ll have to keep an eye on things as temps drop below freezing this evening.  If the drizzle sticks around, we may see some frozen precip begin to stick.

Tue 2/10 – Mostly Sunny – High 44º / Monday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 27º

Plentiful amounts of sunshine will return to southern Kentucky tomorrow as zonal flows takes shape across the central United States.  High temperatures are anticipated to top out in the mid 40s Tuesday afternoon, with overnight lows falling into the upper 20s.

Again, not really much going on.

Wed 2/11 – Partly Sunny – High 53º / Monday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 26º

Beautiful weather is slated for our Wednesday, with temperatures climbing in response to southerly flow.  We can credit our warm up to a weak area of low pressure that will work into the Great Lakes region.

Highs during the afternoon will be in the mid 50s under partly sunny skies.  Don’t get too comfortable, as this brief warming trend will come to an abrupt halt by Wednesday night.  A cold front associated with the weak low located to our north will work southeast across the state, pouring in much colder air from the northwest.

…here we go, again.

This front looks moisture-deprived, meaning our atmosphere will be too dry to see any precipitation along the front.  We’ll certainly see winds turn to the north overnight, as low temps fall into the 20s.  This cold air mass will help set the stage for a chilly end of the work week, with an even colder weekend in the fold.  We’re a ways out, however, the current guidance has Sunday afternoon highs in the MID 20s.  BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
