Friday Afternoon Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

This Afternoon – Partly Cloudy – High 47º / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 33º

3pm 47º – 6pm 41º – 9pm 38º – 12am 36º – 3am 34º – 6am 33º

The Bowling Green weather has made a significant turnaround from the chilly conditions we saw just 24 hours ago. This change is a result of upper-level ridging increasing to our west which means Kentucky will experience warm air advection over the next few days. This map from the NAM model illustrates temperature advections at the 850mb pressure level (about 1.5km above sea level). The shades of red indicate areas that will see warmer temperatures with time.

Highs will reach the middle to upper 40s today with clear skies outside of some high-altitude clouds. Our low temperatures look to bottom out around freezing tonight under mostly clear skies.

 Saturday – Mostly Sunny; Breezy – High 58º / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 43º

Breezy southerly winds will assure that warm air advection continues tomorrow as southern Kentucky will see pleasant conditions on Saturday with mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be running 10-15º above normal across the region and a few locations could make a run at 60º during the afternoon.

Low temperatures are only expected to drop into the lower 40s tomorrow night. Skies will be mostly clear but we can expect cloud cover to begin increasing closer to daybreak as an area of low pressure develops to our north.

Sunday – Scattered Showers – High 59º / Sun Night – Scattered Showers – Low 39º

Low pressure will move across the Great Lakes region on Sunday and an associated cold front will bring rain chances to the area. Ahead of the cold front, temperatures will be warm once again on Sunday under mostly cloudy skies. Shower activity is expected to begin during the mid-morning hours and continue throughout the day.

A cold front will pass over southern Kentucky Sunday evening as surface winds turn to the west and help to usher in cooler temperatures. Showers will continue into early Monday morning as low temperatures fall into the upper 30s. Precipitation will be light on Sunday and rainfall totals are currently expected to remain below 0.25″ across southern Kentucky.
