Cold Air Makes A Return

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today – Mix of Rain and Snow – High 52º↓ / Tonight – Isolated Flurries – Low 22º

6am 52º – 9am 46º – 12pm 39º – 3pm 35º – 6pm 32º

Temperatures will be crashing throughout the day, as a powerful cold front swings through the area. Winds will be gusting at 10-20mph out of the northwest, making wind chill values tank into the 20s.

A few isolated rain/snow showers will be possible this afternoon. No accumulation is expected, however, a brief, heavy snow shower may put down a quick, light dusting on the grass.  The HRRR simulated radar model below, valid for 4pm this afternoon, supports this idea:

Here is a look at the temperatures by late this evening. Notice the large gradient in temperatures from northwest to southeast! Yep, that’s because of the cold front.

Monday – Sunny – High 30º / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 22º

Monday will be downright COLD! High temperatures will barely make it into the 30’s under sunny skies. Light, northwesterly winds will keep windchill readings in the 20s. That’s pretty much all you need to know. Bundle up as you head out the door.

Tuesday – Partly Sunny – High 40º / Tues Night – Cloudy – Low 20º

We will warm up a bit come Tuesday, however, this will be very short lived. An Arctic high pressure system will be sliding southeast toward the region by mid-week, bringing single digit temps to the area. Yes…you heard that correctly!

COLDEST AIR of the season arrives Wednesday & Thursday

Here’s a sneak peek at temperatures for this coming Wednesday & Thursday. It will take the prize of the coldest weather we’ve experienced so far this season.

Wednesday Afternoon:  As the Arctic air continues to filter into the area from the northwest, temperatures will tumble as the day progresses.  High temperatures are only forecast to reach near 20˚, and that should occur during the morning hours.  With northerly winds adding to our misery, windchill readings are forecast to be below zero by Wednesday evening.  BRRRRRRR!

Thursday Morning: This is where things will really get interesting.  As temperatures continue to slide Wednesday night/Thursday morning, the question remains just how far they will drop.

For the time being, it looks like early morning temps on Thursday will be flirting with the 0˚ mark.  Yes…ZERO degrees.  If this comes to fruition, you can’t help but think that  a few locations will fall below zero.  The model below displays temperature readings for 3am Thursday morning, when the Arctic high will be right over top of us…

Those are colors we haven’t seen since last years infamous Polar Vortex!  If you’re still scratching your head over this forecast, here’s a tip…It’s going to be COLD this coming week.  Prepare accordingly, and for love of all that’s holy…
