Deep South Seeing Extreme Rainfall Amounts

While there have not been any significant weather events in the Ohio Valley during the month of December, many locations along the Gulf Coast have seen multiple rounds of heavy rainfall over the past several weeks. Check out this map illustrating the percentage of normal precipitation over the past two weeks:

Anywhere you see cooler colors (green, blue, purple) on the map indicates areas that have seen above normal precipitation. Notice that portions of the Florida panhandle have seen precipitation 600% above normal over the past two weeks. That is very impressive.

Unfortunately, more rainfall is on the way for some of these waterlogged locations. Southwest flow will lead to another significant rainfall event over the next few days and flash flood watches are in effect for areas in the deep south.

The WPC indicates that some areas could see upwards of 4″ of rainfall of the next three days.
