Real-Time Bowling Green Radar:
Today, 12/17: Partly Sunny and Chilly – High 40º / Tonight: Mostly Cloudy; Light Wintry Mix/Snow Late – Low 30º
Today, high pressure could allow us a brief break from the clouds by the afternoon hours. This slight taste of sun will be a nice change from the dreary overcast skies that have been lingering due to the inversion we have become all too familiar with.
Temperatures will struggle to hit 40°, as cold air continues to filter in due to the passing of a cold front earlier this week as well as a secondary, reinforcing front that passed yesterday evening. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 mph. Cooler than normal temperatures may not be something that excites you, but hey, it’s hump day!

Clouds will be on the increase tonight as the next system in question makes its way into our region. With high pressure dominating, the low will stay south but will have somewhat of an effect on our weather here in Bowling Green.
This system will be a weaker disturbance with not much upper-level support, so precipitation accumulation will be small for our area. However, a light wintry mix can be expected after midnight. Cold air will cause precipitation to fall predominately as snow, but more of a mix could be present at first. Once again, little, if any, accumulation can be expected.
Thur, 12/18: Mostly Cloudy; Light Snow/Mix Early – High 39º / Thur Night: Mostly Cloudy – Low 28º
Light snow is possible during the morning hours Thursday, with some slick spots present for the morning commute. Surface temperatures will soon warm above freezing during the mid-morning, so accumulation will once again remain minimal.
Temperatures will be very similar as to how they are today, with highs reaching around 40°. Clouds look to stick around (surprise?), which will help keep the high temperature below normal.
Thursday night looks to be mostly cloudy, with lows dipping just below 30°. Winds will remain fairly light from the north.
Friday, 12/19: Mostly Cloudy – High 43º / Fri Night: Cloudy; Rain Likely – Low 33º
As has been the talk of the weather world lately, another shot of wintry weather is possible this Friday and into Saturday. Moisture from the Gulf will begin to track northeastward Friday, flowing back into our area late that night. An upper-level disturbance in the atmosphere will accompany this moisture, allowing for precipitation to occur. During the day, temperatures will reach into the 40s, with winds from the north at 5 mph.
The strongest part of this upcoming system will remain to the south, with the low running across the southern Gulf states; therefore, Bowling Green will be on the northern end of any precipitation received. As per the current NAM model, temperatures at the surface will be flirting with the freezing mark around the time the other components come into play.
Temperatures look as if they will stay above freezing, allowing rain to dominate as the precipitation type. However, this system is still a few days out, so we will continue to keep a close eye on it.
