Gawker’s Weather Survey

The great minds at The Vane recently offered a weather survey to its readers. The survey asked a few questions regarding the way the public responded in certain weather scenarios, as well as how they got weather information on a day-to-day basis. The results are pretty surprising, and of interest to us here at Wx Or Not.

According to the tally, 52% of those surveyed found their weather information via the use of a smartphone or tablet app. More importantly, to us at least, is that 39% found their weather information via the web. This makes sense because with a website or mobile app, the weather is always at your fingertips, rather than having to wait for the 6 o’clock news to roll around (only 5% catch up on the weather via television).

It’s also interesting to note the Gawker’s weather survey asked questions regarding the confidence people have in forecasts from various outlets of weather information.

The National Weather Service took the top notch in that category, which makes sense because everyone knows that a majority, if not all, NWS employees are degreed Meteorologists. Following the NWS were the folks from Weather Underground, and in 3rd place came the local media.

This just touches the surface of the many findings by The Vane. Be sure to check out the full article of the Gawker’s Weather Survey at their website.
