Slightly Warmer Weather Expected in Bowling Green

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Sunny; Cold – High 28° / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 19°

3 PM 26° (18°) – 6 PM 22° (15°) – 9 PM 20° (15°) – 12 AM 20° (15°) – 3 AM 20° (15°) – 6 AM 19° (12°)

Good afternoon, a very cold afternoon is in progress across southern Kentucky as temperatures have hovered in the middle to upper 20s today. Wind chills have been running 5-10° cooler as a light westerly wind is responsible for making it feel colder than the actual temperature.

The reason for these cold temperatures is a large upper-level trough centered over the eastern United States. This trough is keeping a continental polar air mass locked in place. High temperatures are expected to remain below 40º as far south as the Gulf Coast.

Despite these bitterly cold temperatures, our weather will remain quiet and partly cloudy skies are expected throughout the remainder of the day and overnight. Tonight will be slightly warmer than last night as low temperatures fall to near 20º. Wind chill readings could dip as low as 10-15ºF.

Wednesday 11/19 – Partly Cloudy; Breezy – High 46° / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 27°

A very weak warm front will lift northeast over the Ohio Valley on Wednesday in association with an area of surface low pressure near the Great Lakes region. This warm front will allow winds to turn to the SSW and usher in some warmer temperatures. Sustained winds will reach 15-20mph tomorrow afternoon with gusts as high as 25mph. Skies will be partly cloudy with high temperatures reaching the middle to upper 40s.

Unfortunately, these warmer temperatures will be short-lived as a weak cold front will sweep east across the state early tomorrow night and bring in another shot of cold air. Winds will become calmer and turn to the west overnight as low temperatures dip into the upper 20s.

Thursday 11/20 – Partly Cloudy – High 36° / Thursday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 23°

Expect temperatures to run around ten degrees cooler on Thursday behind the passage of the cold front. Highs will reach the middle 30s as surface high pressure settles into the region and keeps our skies partly cloudy.

Expect another calm, but chilly night on Thursday night. It is looking increasingly likely that we will see some rain chances this weekend but the good news is that these rain chances will come with some warmer temperatures.
