Strong Winds Close Dorena-Hickman Ferry

Strong southerly winds have been impacting the state of Kentucky for the entire day. Gusts as high as 33 mph have been measured in western portions of the state. Conditions are so windy that the Dorena-Hickman Ferry had to shut down operations for the day. According to the Kentucky Mesonet, a wind gust as high as 31 mph has been measured in Hickman, KY, where the ferry is located.

According to a weather station located in Wolf Island, MO, which is located a few miles to the north of Dorena, MO, a wind gust of 30 mph has also been measured at that location. The likely reason for the closure is rough water on the Mississippi River due to the high winds.
