Update on Typhoon Phanfone

As Typhoon Phanfone continues to slam Japan with high winds and heavy rainfall, one U.S. airman has been found dead, and two more are still missing. These airmen were washed out to sea due to high waves off the coast of Okinawa. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported 110 mph sustained winds in Phanfone yesterday; while these winds have slightly weakened since then, the typhoon is still packing a punch on Japan’s Pacific coast. Here is what The Weather Channel had to say about the evolvement of Phanfone:

Although Phanfone is moving into an area of increasing vertical wind shear (changes in wind speed and direction with height) as well as cooler ocean waters, the storm will be slow to weaken and will still be a very intense system as it affects the larger islands of Japan.

Phanfone is currently moving north and is expected to eventually make its right turn to the northeast, where it will become a post-tropical system. The typhoon is forecasted to hit Tokyo Monday morning, and will bring heavy rainfall to all areas affected.
