Today is shaping up to be a warm, muggy day as southerly flow amps up ahead of the approaching cold front to the northwest in association with the storm system into Canada. Any areas seeing more sun than clouds will see highs into the low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s as a result of a good moisture supply. Here’s a look at our surface map for 1pm today:
The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring our area for the threat of severe weather with thunderstorms likely in the evening; resultant from the approaching frontal boundary to the northwest. Below is the most recent Enhanced Thunderstorm Outlook from the SPC, valid until 7pm this evening:
Hi-Res NAM suggests a line of showers and thunderstorms could develop in the evening hours an affect the Bowling Green area shortly after dark. Regardless, with an unstable atmosphere, the threat for rain will be present all throughout the day, keep an eye on the sky and on the radar as some storms may be severe. Lows overnight should fall in the low 70s and any precipitation decreasing in coverage.
Monday 7/14 – Thunderstorms Likely– High 87º / Monday Night – Scattered Showers/ T’storms– Low 72º
More jet stream dynamics will enter the area from the north and the threat for more severe thunderstorms will be the story of the day. We should have already seen a line of thunderstorms affecting the area overnight which will play a huge role on the instability for the day on Monday, and thus, the timing and severity of any storms that develop.
Expect to see thunderstorms regardless and be prepared to heed warnings and exercise any safety precautions necessary. Below is the most recent Convective Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center:
Any lingering storms or showers should decrease in coverage overnight but the threat for severe weather will remain until the frontal boundary clears the area to our south. Lows overnight should fall into the upper 60s with the help of northwest winds by Tuesday morning with frontal boundary passage.
Tuesday 7/15 – Cloudy/Lingering Showers Early– High 78º / Tuesday Night – Clear & Calm– Low 59º
Tuesday will be a huge improvement in the weather as the frontal boundary responsible for the activity on Sunday and Monday passes to our south and brings cooler, more stable air over the area. Northwest flow will clear out our skies and drive down the humidity. We should all be able to breathe a sigh of relief as highs may not even hit 80 degrees. Sweet
Tuesday night is looking calm and comfortable with lows falling into the upper 50s for most of the region. Say thanks to an unusually strong upper level disturbance for this time of year.
