Tropical Storm Arthur Is Here

We have been watching Invest 91L pretty closely over the past few days, and this morning this low was able to strengthen into the first named Tropical Storm of the Atlantic hurricane season…Tropical Storm Arthur.  This occurred soon after 91L was upgraded to a Tropical Depression last night.

Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for portions of the east Florida coast. We’re expecting to see more watches and warnings issued as the day goes on.

The track is subject to change over the next few days but right now this storm is predicted to reach the Outer Banks of North Carolina by early Friday as a Category 1 Hurricane. This will definitely be something to keep an eye on over the next few days.

The highest threat looks to be excessive rainfall and flooding, with locations potentially seeing rain amounts top 6-7″.  This disturbance is expected to peak in strength Thursday night into Friday.
