Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Partly Cloudy & Nice – High 65˚ / Tonight – Clear – Low 40˚

3pm 64˚ ~ 6pm 60˚ ~ 9pm 52˚ ~ 12am 48˚ ~ 3am 44˚ ~ 6am 40˚

It’s a beautiful day in southern Kentucky with current temperatures in the lower to middle 60s. Other than some cumulus clouds we are seeing this afternoon, some pretty strong ridging is helping to keep the weather quiet.

We will see some light westerly winds continue for the rest of the day, but these winds will turn to the south overnight which will set the stage for some warmer temperatures on Thursday.

Thu – Sunny & Breezy – High 75˚ / Thu Night – Increasing Clouds – Low 53˚

A weak cold front will be pushing northwest towards Kentucky on Thursday and while it will not bring any rain chances until Friday, southerly winds ahead of the front will be pretty strong. Tomorrow could be a good day for kite flying, just be a little safer than this guy.

Kite flying fail.

Winds will start off around 5-10 mph Thursday morning and strengthen to 15-25 mph during the afternoon. These winds will help to usher in some warmer air and our high temperature looks to be around 75 degrees.

By Thursday night, winds will die down and turn to the southwest. These winds combined with increasing clouds from the approaching cold front will keep our low temperatures in the 50s.

Fri – Scat’d Showers & Storms  – High 70˚ / Fri Night – Scat’d Showers & Storms – Low 53˚

The cold front will continue moving towards us on Friday but it looks pretty weak at this time. By the afternoon, this front will stall just off to our north which will allow our high temperatures to reach around 70 degrees.

Unfortunately, the front will produce clouds and precipitation across Kentucky. Most of the precipitation will stay to our north but we still see a chance for some scattered showers and storms by tomorrow afternoon. Precipitation amounts are looking pretty light and here is a precipitation forecast from the WPC for Friday showing rainfall totals less than a quarter inch.
