Today’s forecast will not help out any cases of ‘The Mondays’…

It has not been the best start to the week as rain showers moved through earlier today giving most of us between 0.1″-0.25″ of precipitation. Clouds are sticking around today, as an area of low pressure moves northeast along the Ohio River. Cloud cover will continue for the rest of the day and will limit high temperatures to the middle 60s.

Currently, a few thunderstorms have popped up right along I-65 in southern Kentucky. These will continue moving east as the afternoon progresses. We will see some more chances for showers later as the low scoots off to the northeast but most of the precipitation is moving away from our area. The SPC continues to outline portions of southern Kentucky along and east of interstate 65 in a slight risk for severe weather in their afternoon convective outlook.

However, it looks like our chances for strong to severe storms are waning fast as the area of storms moving to our east is using up most of the instability. As these storms continue moving east, locations east of I-65 could see some stronger storms as a result of some pretty strong forcing due to our proximity to the low. Some of these storms could be strong to severe. The main threat with any of these storms would be damaging winds, hail, lightning, and heavy rain.

Things look better as we head into the evening with only a few isolated showers expected. Once the low moves off to our northeast, pressure gradient winds behind the system will turn winds to the west and we could see winds of 10-25 mph by this evening. Winds will weaken tonight and clouds will clear as low temperatures fall into the upper 30s.

Tue – Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 60˚ / Tue Night – Iso’d Showers Early – Low 37˚

Tuesday will start off partly cloudy, but an upper level disturbance will bring us another chance for showers and storms by tomorrow afternoon. These showers and storms will be scattered in coverage and won’t be very organized. Here is a look at what the latest run of the NAM model thinks the radar will look like tomorrow afternoon:

We will have to watch out for the possibility of some small hail with some of these storms, as the freezing level will be low in the atmosphere allowing for easier hail formation. Otherwise, these showers and storms will simply be a nuisance bringing less than a quarter inch of rain. Rain chances will diminish after midnight, and temperatures will fall into the upper 30s once more Tuesday night.

Wed – Sunny & Nice – High 63˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 42˚

Things will improve on Wednesday as a large upper level ridge moves into the area and keeps the weather pleasant. Winds will turn to the southwest by the afternoon, which will allow for warmer temperatures. Wednesday’s high looks to be in the middle 60s under sunny skies. Temperatures will drop into the lower 40s overnight with skies remaining clear.

Southwesterly winds will continue for the rest of the work week which means we could see temperatures in the 70s by Thursday before our next chance of rain arrives Friday. That’s all I have for this afternoon. For more frequent updates be sure to check out @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter. Enjoy the rest of your day.
