Wintry Week Shaping Up

This Afternoon 2/25 – Partly Cloudy – High 45˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 19˚

3pm 45˚ ~ 6pm 36˚ ~ 9pm 31˚ ~ 12am 28˚ ~ 3am24˚ ~ 6am 19˚

I know most of you were not wanting to see a post with a title having anything to do with the word winter, but the forecast for the rest of the week certainly warrants it. Spring-like temperatures will not make an appearance this week as high temperatures remain around 10-15 degrees below normal for this time of year. As of 2pm, temperatures are in the lower 40s across south central Kentucky, with northerly winds making it feel pretty chilly.

Clouds will build in as the day progresses ahead of a weak upper level disturbance set to impact the area tonight. This disturbance will dive southeast into Kentucky overnight, bringing the chance for snow showers with it. Most of the precip looks to impact the northern part of the state. With a current dew point temperature of 11˚ here in Bowling Green, dry air will deplete some of tonight’s precipitation.

With this being said, southern Kentucky is looking at a chance of a dusting of snowfall overnight between midnight and 6am. This does not mean everyone will see this come to fruition. This could cause a few slick spots in the morning for any areas that see snow. Here is what the latest run of the NAM model thinks the radar will look like tonight, and it keeps most of the precipitation in central and northern Kentucky.

Wed – Sunny & Cold – High 29˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 16˚

A cold front will pass with tonight’s snow showers, leaving behind clear skies and possible record cold temperatures tomorrow.

“You’ve got to be kidding me..”

With temperatures only expected to reach the upper 20s tomorrow afternoon, we may make a run at the minimum high temperature in Bowling Green tomorrow. The current record is 27˚ set back in 1920. It’s hard to believe that just 5 days ago Bowling Green tied a record high temperature!

High pressure will slide southeast, allowing for lots of sunshine on Wednesday, but northerly winds will be strong, especially early in the day, which will make the wind chill even colder (possibly single digits). On Wednesday night, clear skies will allow for temperatures to fall to the middle teens.

Thu – Sunny – High 37˚ / Thu Night – Clear – Low 17˚

Thursday will be very similar to Wednesday, just a tad warmer. High pressure will remain over the area, with clear skies expected during the day and overnight. Southwesterly winds will allow high temperatures to reach the upper 30s across southern Kentucky, but Thursday night looks like another cold one with lows in the teens.

Another weak disturbance looks to bring another chance of light rain or snow to the area late Friday, but impacts still look to remain light at this time. We will continue to monitor the forecast and hope for a more spring-like pattern in the future. That’s all for today, enjoy the rest of your afternoon.
