Warming Trend Continues

It must be Friday.

Today 1/31 – Mostly Cloudy, Iso’d PM Showers – High 48˚/ Tonight – Scat’d Showers – Low 41˚

6am 33˚ ~ 9am 35˚ ~ 12pm 45˚ ~ 3pm 48˚ ~ 6pm 43˚ ~ 9pm 42˚

An area of low pressure to our northwest will be in no rush to work across the region today.  This feature looks to stall out to our north today, which will lead to mostly cloudy skies.

As moisture continues to stream into the region from our south, a few light showers will be possible this afternoon.  Below is a look at the current surface setup:

Late tonight, rain showers will begin to filter into the region, ahead of an area of low pressure propagating northeast, out of the desert southwest.  I anticipate the rain to come scattered and light in nature.

Cloud cover won’t allow lows to tumble very far tonight, only bottoming out in the low 40s.

Sat – Scat’d Rain Showers, BREEZY – High 64˚ / Sat Night – Rain to Wintry Mix late – Low 32˚

Our weekend will get off to a relatively warm start, as temperatures steadily climb well into the 50s by Saturday afternoon.  I’m may be stretching it a bit forecasting a high of 64˚, but stout southerly winds of 15-25+mph have me thinking that it’s a good possibility.

Rain showers will remain isolated/scattered at the start of our Saturday, with an increase in the wet stuff taking place as we get into the evening.  Saturday night, a line of moderate to heavy precipitation looks to evolve, as a surface boundary in the form of a cold front surges eastward across south central Kentucky.  Have a look at the NAM thickness model below, valid for 12am Sunday morning:

Sun – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – High 38˚ / Sun Night – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 25˚

Early Sunday morning could get rather interesting, as temps plummet to near freezing.  The question that still remains is if the colder air can catch up and coincide with the shield of precipitation.

If the cold air is quick on its feet, we could see a changeover to a rain/sleet/snow mix late Saturday night.  Eventually, we could experience all snow Sunday morning, resulting in very minor accumulations…at best.  Temps quickly climbing above freezing should keep any traveling concerns minor.

Scat’d snow showers will remain in place on Sunday night, as the cold front continues to progress to our east.  I’ll be monitoring this closely, as anything that falls will stick.  As far as accumulations are concerned, you’ll have to wait another day to get my thoughts.

We’ll continue to monitor the upcoming weather makers as the latest data is released.  Per the usual, follow @WarrenCountyWX & @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent weather information.  Enjoy the last day of the work week, and savor the warm temperatures while you can.  Thanks for reading.
