Wednesday Afternoon Update

Wednesday afternoon…it’s all downhill from here.

This Afternoon – Sunny & Cold – High 26˚ / Tonight – Clear & Cold, Again – Low 11˚

3pm 26˚ ~ 6pm 19˚ ~ 9pm 14˚ ~ 12am 13˚ ~ 3am 13˚ ~ 6am 11˚

High pressure will keep us cold, sunny and quiet this afternoon.  As we get into tonight, this feature will track to our east, setting up southerly flow across the region.  This will cause a warming trend across Kentucky through the start of the weekend.  Here’s a look at the current surface conditions for a better understanding:

Thu – Partly Sunny – High 44˚ / Thu Night – Cloudy – Low 30˚

Southwesterly winds will amp up to 10-20mph as we get into our Thursday, coinciding with rays of sunshine to take highs into the lower – mid 40s.  This flow will begin to transport moisture across our proximity, which will cause an increase in cloud coverage as we get into Thursday night.  A few flurries will be possible late, but no major impacts are expected.  Don’t hi-jack the milk truck.

Fri – Scat’d PM Showers – High 43˚ / Fri Night – Scat’d Showers – Low 38˚

As moisture continues to saturate our atmosphere, scattered showers will evolve across the area.  The most likely time to see these showers come to fruition will be during the afternoon and evening.  Rain chances will increase as we get into Friday night, with cloud cover holding temps to ~40˚.

Rain showers will continue to increase in coverage as we get into Saturday, with another bout of winter weather possible Saturday night – Sunday, as a cold front advances southeast across the Ohio Valley.  I realize we’re several days out, but here’s a look at the latest GFS precip model, valid for 12am Sunday.  It paints a wintry mix tracking E across the Bluegrass:

Take this ONE model run with a grain of salt, as guidance will continue to fluctuate between now and then.
