Light Snow Possible Tonight

Another clipper??  Fantastic.

Today 1/20 – Partly Sunny – High 50˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 25˚

6am 35˚ ~ 9am 41˚ ~ 12pm 47˚ ~ 3pm 50˚ ~ 6pm 34˚ ~ 9pm 30˚

Eastern US looks to remain in an upper level trough, as southwesterly flow at the surface takes temperature values to around 50˚ today.  Cloud cover will increase as we get into the afternoon and evening, ahead of our next weather maker.  Until then, we should enjoy plenty of sunshine.

Tonight, a shortwave will dive southeast across the region, giving us another chance at sporadic, scattered snow showers.  If you don’t know this pattern by now, I can’t help you.  We’ve been caught in this repetitive cycle of weak clipper systems diving southeast across south central Kentucky since early last week.

Very minor accumulations will be possible (dusting – 1″) before this is all said and done by midday Tuesday.  It’s nothing to get worked up about, however, traveling could become a concern.  Amounts will vary.  The sporadic nature of these disturbances could drop nothing at your residence, while laying down a solid dusting – 1″ of snow just miles away.

The GFS Precip model loop below gives you a better idea of how this system may evolve.  It’s valid from 6am this morning – 12pm Tuesday in 6-hour increments:

GFS Precip Loop Valid 6am Mon - 12pm Tues
GFS Precip Loop Valid 6am Mon – 12pm Tues

Tues – Scat’d AM Snow Showers, BREEZY – High 27˚ / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 11˚

Lingering snow showers will stick around through the early part of our Tuesday, with gradual clearing expected as high pressure works in from the northwest through the afternoon.  Monday night’s low will play as Tuesday’s high.

We will have to deal with MUCH colder weather, as northwesterly winds of 10-20mph pester us behind the clipper.  Wind chills are forecast to be in the teens.  Clouds should continue to break up into the overnight, as temperatures tumble.

Wed – Partly Sunny – High 27˚ / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 16˚

High pressure will build over the area and give us a mix of sun and clouds to go along with bitter temps.  Nothing much  to talk about outside of that.  A weak disturbance passing to our northeast will increase cloud cover on Wednesday night, before a reinforcing high suppresses temperatures to around 20˚ on Thursday.

Long story short…make sure the winter clothes are clean for this week.  That’s all I’ve got for you this morning.  Stay connected with me @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent weather information.  Have a great start to the week.  Thanks for reading.
