Clear but Cool

woohoo-leo

That moment when you realized you have a 3 day weekend! (I know… some don’t.)

Today 1/19 – Becoming Sunny – High 39˚/ Tonight – Clear – Low 29˚

6am 31˚ ~ 9am 30˚ ~ 12pm 34˚ ~ 3pm 38˚ ~ 6pm 35˚ ~ 9pm 33˚

Most of us dodged the rain and snow showers yesterday afternoon/evening thanks to the very dry air which held in place. There were at least a few flurries reported in the area. That quick moving disturbance is long gone today and after some morning clouds we’ll see nothing but a clear, cool day to enjoy. Temperatures will only manage to rise into the upper 30s by the afternoon but the sun should help take the edge off the chill. Overnight, clears skies remain as temperatures fall into the upper 20s.

Monday – Mostly Sunny – High 45˚/ Increasing Clouds, Chance of Flurries – Low 21˚

For the most part the weather should make for a great Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Skies will start the day sunny and only a few clouds may move in during the afternoon. Meanwhile temperatures will climb into the low to mid 40s which will make it the warmest day until at least the upcoming weekend. Though it will mainly go unnoticed, a cold front will slide through during the day which will mainly just cause a shift in the wind. Cooler air will begin to drift in behind it during the evening hours however.

During the evening hours the temperatures will begin to drop considerably as a cold air mass settles in, in association with a large scale trough over the eastern US. Clouds will also increase into the overnight hours and it is possible for at least a few flurries with a weak disturbance which is expected to pass through. By Tuesday morning temperatures will have fallen down to near 20.

Tuesday – Mostly Cloudy, Chance of Flurries – High 23˚/ Mostly Cloudy – Low 12˚

Tuesday will be cloudy for the most part, we’ll be lucky to get some sun to try to help warm us a bit. It will be cold as it looks like we’ll spend the day with temperatures not getting out of the low to mid 20s. There could be a few areas of scattered flurries. Temperatures will continue to drop into the nighttime hours with an overnight low in the low teens. Brrrrr!

Cold temperatures will be brought in with an upper level trough and a surface high pressure system this week. GFS model model valid for 12pm Tuesday.

Cold weather will stick with us through much of the week as it looks like we may see a string of 3-4 days with temperatures at or below freezing starting Tuesday. There could be a few single digit lows but otherwise the temperatures are not expected to be quite as cold, especially during the day, as our last major cold outbreak from a couple of weeks ago.

That’s all I’ve got for this weekend everyone. Enjoy MLK Day festivities tomorrow and an extra day off if you get it. Otherwise have a great week. Landon will be back with the forecasts throughout the week. Keep up with the latest information by following @Wx_Or_Not on twitter. Thanks for stopping in.
