Quiet Weekend In Store

"Jonah, good news...it's Friday."
“Jonah, good news…it’s Friday.”

Today – Sunny – High 55 / Tonight – Clear, Low 34

7am 34 ~ 10am 48 ~ 1pm 55 ~ 4pm 50 ~ 7pm 43

High pressure has taken control across south central Kentucky, friends, and this will keep sunny skies in the forecast for another day.  Light, northwesterly flow will keep chilly conditions around.  Have a look at the surface model for further verification:

Temperatures will tumble as we get into the evening hours of today, so for all of you high school football fans, dress warm for tonight’s playoff match-ups.  By 10pm, temperatures will be in the upper 30s.

Sat & Sun – Partly Sunny – Lower 60s / Sat & Sun Night – Partly Cloudy – Mid 30s

We’ll experience a slight increase in temperatures through the weekend, as our atmosphere maintains a peaceful attitude under sunny skies.  Light, southerly flow will allow highs to rebound into the lower 60s.  Overnight lows will slide to the mid 30s.

Next Week’s Snow Potential…

The 00z run of the GFS (viewed below) has backed off of our snow chances, which continues a recent trend of flip flopping amongst the models. It keeps the white stuff across eastern Kentucky, giving us no accumulation.

The Euro, on the other hand, still indicates that light accumulations will be possible. We’ll need to keep an eye on things to see when these models come up with a solution. At this point, take a guess…it’s the best we can do right now. The GFS model below is valid through 12pm Tuesday, and displays snow depth through this time:

It is important to note that models are well known to have a difficult time handling winter weather setups, and I don’t expect to see a consistent trend for another day or two…until we get closer to the event. I will say that it looks like we could have some mixed precip when this system moves through. The big question will be temperatures aloft and at the surface. If the surface doesn’t cool down, we won’t have any accumulation to worry about.

I’ll be back this afternoon with a fresh forecast. Don’t forget, for more frequent weather information, connect with me via Facebook and Twitter. Have a great Friday! Thanks for reading.
