Storms Today Lead to Spectacular Holiday Weekend

Good morning WABBLES! We hope it has been a great week for you so far as it has been a rather hot one the last few days. We have a change in pace ahead with storms expected to roll in later today. The good news is these storms will lead to a spectacular 4th of July weekend!

The holiday weekend is almost here! (Giphy)

Right Now

Dry as of 5am this morning, but that is going to change after sunrise and into the afternoon today. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to move later this morning and continue through most of the day. Radar below shows a lot of activity to our north that is quickly diving southward.

Future radar for today shows the widespread activity that is expected to move through today. The good news is the severe threat will remain low. The lack of sunshine and efficient heating will prevent large amounts of instability to build.

The main threat this afternoon will be the heavy rainfall. Torrential downpours will be able to unload large amounts of rainfall in a very short period of time later today. The potential for localized flooding will need to be monitored. The greatest flash flooding risk will be in far eastern Kentucky.

Rainfall amounts of 0.20-0.80″ will be likely for today, although some isolated amounts will approach 2″ under the heaviest downpours. Again, if you see a flooded roadway remember to turn around don’t drown.

The Holiday Weekend

Heading into tomorrow it will be downright gorgeous. Dry conditions are expected to return along with mostly sunny skies. These nice conditions are expected to continue into the holiday weekend.

Mostly sunny skies and highs near 80 are expected to return Friday.

Ridging will continue to build through the weekend and the dry conditions will continue. The humidity will be much lower than the previous days so it is looking like one of the best 4th of July weekend we have seen in a long time!

That will do it for today! Keep an eye out on flooded roads later today and enjoy the holiday weekend! Have a great Thursday! Remember to follow us on social media @wxornotbg.
