Cold Front to Spark more Showers and Storms this Afternoon

Good morning, WABBLES! It is a wet start to the weekend with showers currently moving through the area. Fortunately we have avoided the severe weather so far and thankfully that trend will likely continue today. We watch as cold front looks to spark more showers and storms this afternoon.

Today

Showers moving through this morning will begin to taper off as we approach midday. Rain amounts have remained light so far and we are not expecting much in the way of heavy amounts. Our eyes will turn to a cold front west of us that will develop more showers and storms late this afternoon.

Satellite above reveals a large complex of storms diving south into the Gulf of Mexico. Looking ahead to future radar, we see that more showers and storms are going to develop this afternoon across the commonwealth. Temperatures should approach 70 degrees later today and with any luck we may get a few peeks of sun by the end of the day.

Storms this afternoon will have the potential to be strong when they first develop. The greatest threat for severe storms will likely be to our east.

*A Marginal risk (1/5) for those along and east of I-65*

Main threats will be small hail and wind gust up to 60mph. Again this threat looks rather low and mainly east of WABBLES.

Wind gusts outside of storms will be up to 30mph at times today. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 40s overnight with partly cloudy skies.

Sunday

The low pressure will slowly depart as head into Sunday. Although, showers and clouds will linger on the back side through Sunday afternoon. Right now it looks like WABBLES will see more sunshine than not, but areas to our north will likely be socked under the clouds.

Dry conditions are expected to end the weekend and will continue into the new work week. A gradual cooling trend will continue into next week with highs in the mid-60s by Wednesday. Isolated showers may also return come the end of the week.

Cooler Trends for Next Week

Here is look at the temperature outlook through the middle of April. Average high this time of year is in the low 70s. Forecast highs in the 60s will be common over the next week or so.

Below average temperatures continue through the middle of the month.
