Calm through the Weekend

Good Friday, morning WABBLES! We hope you have had a great week so far even with the rain and storms in our area. Conditions have slowly improved across our area with the rain moving out of the region. All good news from here as calm conditions return through the weekend.

Today

Waking up this morning we are dealing with overcast skies and temperatures in the 40s. Clouds are expected to gradually decrease through out the day as we become mostly sunny. Winds will start to ramp up this afternoon with gusts up to 30 mph expected.

There will be a real chill in the air with the gusty winds and temperatures struggling into the 50s for highs. We will start to see the sun break through this afternoon as clouds begin to decrease this morning.

Weekend

Temperatures are expected to plummet tonight as we head into the low 30s. The combination of clear skies and winds calming will allow us to get rather cold by Saturday morning. Temperatures will be well into the 20s north of WABBLES.

High pressure will keep all of the gulf moisture well south of the area with dry conditions expected across the entire region. Sunny skies and highs making it into the low 60s will return for our Saturday. Winds will be calmer with gusts only 10-15 mph.

Saturday night temperatures will drop back into the low to mid 30s under mostly clear skies. As we head into Sunday, temperatures will rebound again back into the mid 60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds remain calm with dry conditions expected to persist.

We drop back into the 30s Sunday night with dry conditions still expected to continue. Temperatures approach 70 degrees Monday under mostly sunny skies. Great weather is expected through the weekend and into *early* next week.

Next Week

The pattern will start to get active again as our next storm system moves into the Central Plains. Moisture and warmer air will start to stream north again from the Gulf of Mexico.

Rain chances will increase by Tuesday – Wednesday with showers expected to increase across the area. Right now we so no signs of severe weather or flooding issues through next week.

Average Frost Dates

The first day of astronomical Spring is this Saturday, but does that mean it is time to plant? As most know around here planting season is still several weeks away. One of the best local rules of thumb around here is not planting until after Derby.

Now areas in and around the city might be ok to plant by mid-April. Although, better to be safe than sorry as we have seen freezing temperatures in early May before. Here below is also a look at our average last 36 degree reading across the region.

Hope this information helps when deciding to plant. We still got about a month to go, but temperatures are slowly getting warmer. We here in Kentucky have see our temperatures take wild swings this time of year.
