Good Friday morning, WABBLES! It has been a gorgeous week of weather across the region with afternoon highs into the 70s the past few days. The pattern is taking a much different turn over the next couple days with showers and storms expected to continue through the weekend.
Today
Looking out there right now, we have a train of showers and storms just our north that are slowly diving south. Here is a look at the radar as of of 7am this morning. Most of the activity has stayed to our north.
Heavy rain totals have been observed near Evansville since yesterday. The Kentucky Mesonet shows rainfall totals over 2.50″ in a few locations. WABBLES has barely received a drop with only a few showers since Thursday morning.
Heading through today, this rain will start to shift southward into Southern Kentucky. Showers and a few heavy downpours will be possible through this evening. Here is a look at future radar for today.
Activity should start to let up later this afternoon with only a few light showers this evening. Rainfall amounts today will not be heavy by any means with up to 1/2in expected.
Temperatures will not move much at all today. We are currently in the upper 50s and we will stay there through out the day. We drop down into the upper 40s overnight with more rain expected to move in.
Saturday
We will wake up Saturday with more shower and storm activity moving through the area. Again, we are not expecting widespread heavy rainfall totals from this event. A few locations will approach 1 inch of rain through Sunday morning. The highest totals will stay to our west though.
Rain moves in and out again on Saturday with activity slowing down tomorrow evening. Temperatures work their way into the upper 50s for highs tomorrow. Winds do remain relatively calm with gusts of 10-15 mph expected at best.
Sunday – Monday
Light showers are expected to continue off and on through our Sunday with temperatures setting up right around 60 degrees. Rainfall amounts will remain light with Sunday just being a soggy and soupy day.
It is heading into Monday that we will need to keep an eye on the sky. The storm system that is causing this mess will start to move into the Ohio Valley. We are expecting more rain to move into the region by Monday afternoon. This is where we could see some heavier rain and even stronger storms.
While rainfall totals through early next week may approach 2in in some locations, the flooding threat will stay relatively low. We will not know until Sunday if these Monday storms will have any threat of being strong to severe. As of right now heavy down pours and gusty winds will be possible come Monday.
The image above shows there will be strong winds above the surface on Monday. The question is will there be enough fuel (instability) for storms to work with. Again, just something to monitor through the weekend.
