Good Friday morning, Kentucky! What an active week of weather it has been with everything from severe weather to winter weather. The pattern is not letting up and it will continue to stay active as rain returns for the weekend.
Today
It is a cold start to the morning across the Commonwealth. Take a look at the temperatures right now with many locations in the single digits near the Bluegrass region. The snowpack is making it much colder up there. Down here we are sitting in the upper teens and low 20s so bundle up!
Clear skies overhead has also helped dip our temperatures into the deep freeze. The good news is the mostly clear skies will continue as mostly sunny skies this afternoon. Here is a look at future cloud cover for today.
Temperatures will still struggle this afternoon even with the sunny skies. A cold air mass is slowly moving out which is still bringing us a cold northerly flow. Highs this afternoon will be lucky to touch 40 degrees.
Weekend Outlook
Heading into the weekend we start to watch our storm system approach from the west. Saturday for the most part looks dry as precipitation will likely not arrive until well after sunset. Here is a look at the future radar for tomorrow.
Most of Saturday again looks dry, if anything we may squeeze out a few showers during the day as the warm front moves through. Temperatures will warm get close to 50 degrees with a southerly wind kicking in.
If you are by chance traveling north this weekend. I would probably check the weather and your plans. Winter Storm Watches for areas across Norther Indiana and the Chicago metro. They are expecting several inches of snow this weekend. Otherwise, all rain down here in Kentucky!
Rainfall Amounts
The good news is that rainfall amounts look way more manageable this weekend, unlike earlier this week. Up to 1/2in and in some cases 3/4in looks to be the limit in rainfall totals.
There are still some river flooding issues out there, but in all honesty, rivers should relax by then and should be able to handle this coming rain.
Sunday
Shower activity will continue into Sunday morning before becoming more widely scattered by the afternoon. Our high temperatures will be reached in the morning so temperatures will slowly fall into the low 40s throughout the day.
Sunday is just going to be one of those days with overcast skies and pesky showers moving through. A great day to stay inside for sure. As temperatures drop into Sunday night we may see some of those rain showers turn into snow showers. No impacts are expected at this time, but just something to keep an eye on.
That is all for today folks! Enjoy the rest of your day, the weekend is almost here. I encourage everyone reading this to visit us on our social media sites, @wxornotBG, on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Have a great day!
