Temperatures on the Rise

Happy Friday, Kentucky! It has been a spectacular week of weather across the region with low humidity and temperatures staying in the mid to low 80s. Be ready though, summer is about to return with temperatures on the rise!

Today

The last several days our weather has been controlled by Canadian high pressure associated with a shortwave trough. This has allowed cooler, drier air to work into the region. The lower humidity is what everyone has been noticing. You don’t walk outside and start sweating almost instantaneously!

Dewpoints today will stay in the mid 60s with temperatures closing in on the upper 80s. Those dewpoints below 70 degrees makes all the difference and the NAM model below may be overdoing it too.

We stay dry through the day with temperatures falling back into the 60s tonight.

Saturday

Temperatures will return to the 90s for the first time in awhile on Saturday. The humidity will start to become more noticeable, but still not overly oppressive.

A little bit of fog may be possible Saturday morning so be careful if you are out driving early in the morning. Fog that does develop will burn off by mid-morning. Dry conditions will continue through the day with lows Saturday night in the upper 60s.

Sunday and Beyond

Sunday we start to see the ridge out west start building into our area. We will still be between the shortwave trough and the edge of the ridge which complicates the forecast a bit.

Sunday right now is looking mostly dry, but we are watching the chance for a few storms. The graphic below shows where the best fuel will be for storms un Sunday. Our area will have some fuel but it will be very minimal.

Storms will develop to our north early Sunday and move south, but most likely die out before reaching us. A few showers may be possible, but otherwise mostly dry. Check back tomorrow for the latest updates on our Sunday rain chance.

Heading through next week we see temperatures head well into the 90s with oppressive humidity. Daily afternoon storm chances will be possible as diurnal heating gets pop up showers and storms going.
