Cristobal’s Remnants Impact the Region

Good morning! I hope everyone has had a fantastic start to the week. Recently we’ve seen lots of sun and beautiful sunsets. Today will be a bit different from the recent theme as Cristobal’s remnants impact the region.

Chance of Strong to Severe Storms

As Cristobal works its way up through Missouri and Arkansas, the circulation will leave a number of cells off to the southeast (aka Bowling Green and the surrounding areas.) These cells will bring the chance of storms to the region, some of which could be severe.

The main threats we will be looking at are heavy rain, gusty winds, and an isolated tornado or two. The NWS-Louisville has released the following special weather statement:

...Gusty Winds Possible Tuesday...

Gusty southerly winds of 30-35 mph will be possible Tuesday
morning and afternoon. Drivers on east-west roads should use
caution, especially in high-profile vehicles.

The tornado threat will depend on a number of ingredients. Those of which we are watching include lift, wind shear, and instability. Wind shear should increase as the day progresses along with instability as the surface temperature rises to the high 80s. Places where these three ingredients overlap is where the best chances to see tornados will be. Right now, it looks like this will be along and west of I-65.

The storms should move out of the region by Tuesday evening and leave behind just a chance of showers for the overnight. Expect the gusty winds to move out as the storms move out. The low will drop to the low 70s.

A Slight Cool Down Behind Cristobal

Behind Cristobal, clear conditions will dominate along with temps in the low 80s. At least it’s not the dreaded 90s! Overnight lows will be about 60 degrees and it looks like we stay dry all the through the weekend.
