Hot and Muggy Conditions are here to Stay

Happy Friday, WABBLES! Widespread showers and storms have moved out after sticking with us through the overnight hours. The rain was a welcomed relief in the midst of a very warm pattern. The storms move out in time for the weekend, but hot and muggy conditions are here to stay.

Drier Today

The rain has moved out after a wet and stormy Thursday. The commonwealth did pick up quite a bit of rainfall yesterday and early this morning, especially across Central Kentucky. Many areas had well over 2 inches of rain.

Today we will not see the widespread rain like we did yesterday. There is a very slight chance for a pop shower or downpour, but consider yourself lucky if you get under one today. You can see future radar for this afternoon is not too excited about rain chances.

Temperatures this afternoon will top out near 90 degrees with the suppressive dew points well into the 60s making it feel miserable. Remember to stay hydrated if you are spending a long period of time outside! Lows tonight drop down to 70 degrees.

Weekend Outlook

What can I say about the weekend but that it is going to be more of the same. We will see a cold front approach the area Saturday evening/night which may increase are chances for a few showers and storms. Do you want to hear the kicker? The cold front that approaches Saturday is not going to pass all the way through and cool us down. Look at how close it gets then stops at our door step!

Temperatures Saturday will top out near 90 degrees with a chance for scattered showers and storms, otherwise, it will be mostly sunny. We drop down to 65 degrees Saturday night.

Sunday is looking dry and hot as our cold front starts to slowly retreat north, but it has become pretty stationary. Mostly sunny skies will dominate the region, while temperatures make it to 88 degrees with again the humidity making it feel miserable. Temperatures drop down to 64 degrees Sunday night.

Rain Next Week for WABBLES?

If some of you have not heard, we are currently tracking some tropical activity across the southern Gulf of Mexico right now. Cristobal (Kree-STO-bahl) is currently over the Yucatan Peninsula as a tropical depression. Look at how disorganized it is this morning.

How will this affect us you ask? This system is going to move north through out the weekend, eventually it will make landfall as a tropical storm somewhere in Louisiana most likely. Here is the National Hurricane Center’s forecast cone.

This storm will bring heavy rain to the gulf coast and gusty winds. The rainfall forecast right now has the heaviest rainfall west of the WABBLES area. This is something we will have to monitor over the coming days to see where Cristobal ultimately tracks.

The heat and humidity will stick with us for most of next week as again there is no relief in sight for the next several days.
