Storm Chances Today

A big warm up begins today as our temperatures skyrocket into the mid 80s across the area. A warm front is moving north which will allow us to heat up. It will start to feel muggier out there today too as more moisture looks to move in as well. Dewpoints the last few days have been in the 50s, while the next several days the dewpoints will be in the upper 60s and low 70s.

We will have a mix of clouds and sun throughout the day. I mentioned how more moisture is moving in and will make it muggier. The combination of that and warm temperatures will allow for some thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. These storms will be scattered in nature, but could but down some heavy rain if you are caught under one of them.

Pop showers and storms possible this afternoon. (Pivotal Weather)

It won’t be a washout today but those storms will be around at times. Temperatures drop down tonight to 67 degrees. Any storms that do develop during the day will fall apart after dark as we lose diurnal heating.

Storm Chances (Again) on Sunday

Sunday looks to start off nice with dry conditions until we get to the afternoon. Temperatures will get well into the 80s even approaching 90 depending on how much sun we receive. The muggy conditions will be in full force as Sunday is looking like a classic summer day forecast. Pop up showers and thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon.

Lightning Saftey

A lot of people will be outside, on lakes, etc this weekend. The chance for thunderstorms means the risk of dangerous lightning. If you are outside remember, “When thunder roars go indoors“. Here is a great information graphic from our friends at the National Weather Service on lightning.

Memorial Day

Storm chances on Memorial Day look about the same. Temperatures will again warm well into the upper 80s with very muggy conditions. Afternoon pop up showers and thunderstorms will be an issue on Monday. Look at the dewpoints on Memorial Day approaching 70 degrees. Its going to feel like a hot summer day!

Rest of Next Week

Temperatures the rest of next week are trending well into the mid to upper 80s. Southerly flow will continue to throw moisture in the area giving us daily chances of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

That finishes today’s forecast. Thanks for reading! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotBG, as well as on Facebook, for all your weather updates. Have a great Memorial Day weekend and remember to stay safe!
