Wet and Stormy Days Ahead

Good morning, South-Central Kentucky! Welcome to Thursday. We have the chance for some active weather to roll through today, but it doesn’t stop there. Wet and stormy days are ahead for the WABBLES area.

How we all feel with the insane amount of rain we’ve gotten this year! (Giphy)

Enhanced Risk for Severe Weather Today

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has upgraded our area to an Enhanced Risk of severe weather today. This means our chances for seeing strong winds, hail, and even some tornadoes goes up a little.

We will start off today under mostly cloudy skies, but our high temperatures will climb into the low 70’s by the afternoon. This warm and moist airmass from the south will help kick storms off as a warm front moves through later this afternoon.

Storms are expected to start developing around 2 pm as the warm front moves northward. Then, we’ll catch a break in the stormy weather before the cold front moves through in the overnight hours.

The main threats for today are strong winds, hail, and possibly a tornado. Make sure you have more than one way to get weather alerts, and check back here for any updates throughout the day.

Dry Weather Break on Friday

Once the cold front moves though overnight on Thursday, a high pressure will briefly take over and give us a break from the wet and stormy weather.

We will catch a brief break from the rain on Friday before the next round moves through on Saturday. (WPC)

Highs will be much cooler in the mid 50’s under mostly cloudy skies. Seems like your typical March day. The dry weather doesn’t last long, though, before our next round of rain moves through.

Showers on Saturday

The next low pressure system will slowly make its way from the Desert Southwest towards the east. However, no severe weather is expected with this storm. Only a wet Saturday with persistent showers.
