Gloomy Weather Wednesday

Unsettled weather has been the story so far for February, so why stop now? After a mostly dry Tuesday morning, rain finally moved back into the region last night. This active system will continue across the Ohio Valley today, so expect a gloomy weather Wednesday.

Rain Showers…

Seems like every week we have a potent low pressure system move across Kentucky, bringing more and more rain to the already saturated ground. This week continues that trend as another low pressure system moves across the Ohio Valley today.

Late last week, our weather models were showcasing this system dumping upwards of 10+ inches of snow for Wisconsin and Iowa, but began to move the snow further south with each update over the weekend. Now, central Illinois and Indiana will get the bulk of snow. We will see off and on rain showers throughout today as we remain on the south side (warm side) of the low pressure system.

Currently 41ºF at 6:30 AM, temperatures will only reach 43ºF before diving again thanks to strong west-northwest winds. Winds will be out of the west later today at 10-15 mph and 25 mph gusts. Once we cool down enough, we could see rain begin to turn into a wintry mix and light snow this evening.

Snow showers should remain rather scattered and light in nature, and no snow accumulation or impacts are expected. After 2 am, the precipitation moves east, and we begin to dry out. Skies will remain cloudy overnight, with temperatures near 25ºF.

Sunny Thursday, Unsettled Weather Returns Overnight

Clouds will be decreasing Thursday morning as we will be between weather systems. Another low pressure system located in South Dakota will be nose-diving into the Ohio Valley, and will arrive by late Thursday or early Friday.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny during the day, but winds will continue to be quite breezy. Expect winds to be around 10-15 mph out of the west, with gusts up to 20 mph. Clouds will be making their way back into Kentucky by dinner time, as the next round of precipitation looms closer.

Friday Morning Snow Chances

A clipper system will bring rain and possibly even wintry precipitation around midnight Thursday, and continue during the overnight hours of early Friday morning. Temperatures will be around 30ºF, so we could even transition to all snow if we get cold enough in the atmosphere. This could certainly make for a challenging commute Friday morning.

During and shortly after any snowfall, isolated deteriorated road conditions are possible as bands of heavier snowfall are likely. The heaviest amounts aren`t likely to be widespread. Thinking 0.5 inches are likely with a few locations maybe seeing slightly more.

Certainly something to keep close eyes on as we get more data in later today and tomorrow. A good dusting to 0.5 inches will be possible, but it depends on snowfall rates. Isolated areas could see up to an inch of snow, but better chances for that are much further east of I-65.

Snow showers will be out of WABBLES by lunchtime, and we should be dry for the afternoon hours. Mostly cloudy skies will be present as temperatures rise to around 46ºF.
