Good morning friends, and welcome back to wxornotBG! Hope your week has been off to a fabulous start, and now the weekend is quickly approaching. While Monday was delightfully sunny, yesterday was another dreary day. The gloomy weather pattern continues as we get closer to the weekend.
Rain and Snow Mix Early This Morning
Our next system has arrived to WABBLES, and is trying to make the morning commute difficult. Current radar (at 6:10 AM) is showing a colorful return of snow, wintry mix, and rain all within the vicinity of our area.
Looking at the Kentucky Mesonet, temperatures are around 36ºF at the surface, which is a good sign (sorry snow lovers). The rain to our south-southwest will continue northeast and into our area by midmorning, as we get to near 44ºF later today.
Here’s an excerpt from our friends, the National Weather Service, on their thinking of the wintry mix and snow for this morning:
By afternoon, any rain/snow mix should become all rain. Given how light the precipitation is, and how warm ground temperatures will be where the “heaviest” precipitation is, not too concerned about any impacts at this time.
Model guidance is keeping scattered light rain showers in the region throughout the afternoon hours, as seen below.
Rain should begin to exit the region by the evening commute, and we could even see a few flurries again as temperatures drop. No accumulation of snow or impacts are expected, especially since ground temperatures are around 40ºF. Overcast skies will slowly break apart during the overnight hours into Thursday, and temperatures will bottom out to around 32ºF.
Quiet Thursday
A break from the gloomy weather will welcome us on Thursday, and it will be much needed. A high pressure system quickly moves in the midwest, and will skip along to our north.
This high pressure will make for partly sunny skies and dry conditions. With peaks of sunshine, our temperatures will climb to around 46ºF, with calm winds out of the north.
As the evening hours approach, more clouds will work into the area, making for mostly cloudy to overcast conditions. Temperatures will drop to around 33ºF, but luckily we’ll stay dry…. until Friday.
Rain Returns Friday
After a quick break of pleasant weather, the soggy conditions return right away to give us more gloomy weather. Another atmospheric disturbance will bring rain showers to the area. The GFS and European model guidance suggests we will see scattered light showers during the morning hours, as seen below.
The models move the rain chances out by the afternoon hours, but cloudy conditions will persist. Other than the rain, our temperatures will be in the neighborhood of 48ºF. During the overnight hours, temperatures will drop to around 35ºF. Clouds may begin to break out during the very early morning hours on Saturday.
