Rain Chances for Today

Good morning folks and welcome to wxornotBG! I hope your week has been off to a great start, and now we have the weekend almost in sight. Before we get to the end of the week, we have rain chances for today.

Scattered Showers

A low pressure system located over Chicago/Great Lakes area will lift a warm front northward this morning, followed by a cold front from the west this evening. This will bring chances for scattered showers.

Wednesday Weather Outlook (WPC)

There is a small amount of ingredients present for some isolated thunderstorms later today, so don’t be surprised if you hear thunder or see lightning. Here’s a snippet from the National Weather Service regarding today’s chances:

Sounding and SBCAPE progs from southern Kentucky Wednesday afternoon indicate isolated thunderstorms will be possible. Wet bulb zero heights and DCAPE values with dry air aloft suggest there may be a brief window when a few storms could produce some small hail and perhaps slightly increased wind gusts, especially in the Lake Cumberland region late in the afternoon.

Expect scattered showers to be present from this morning until around dinner time tonight. Along with the hit or miss rain will be some breezy conditions. Winds will be out of the southeast today ay 10-15 mph, with occasional gusts up to 25 mph possible. Certainly won’t be as windy as it was this past weekend.

Temperatures will be above normal again, with a forecast high of 68ºF. Showers clear out after sunset, and may get some clouds to break up. Temperatures will bottom out at 34ºF.

Dry Thursday

High pressure quickly moves in behind the low pressure. The high will be located over Wisconsin tomorrow, which will help bring in north winds and cool us down to normal conditions.

Thursday Weather Outlook (WPC)

Expect afternoon highs to top out around 46ºF, under partly sunny skies. Winds will be much calmer for Thursday. Clouds will increase Thursday night as our next wave of unsettled weather approaches. Nighttime temperatures will be a cool 31ºF.

More Rain for Friday

A second round of rain will move in on Friday to end the work week. There is some model disagreement, so updated forecasts will have a better handle on Friday as more data comes in.

Trying to predict the future like…. (Giphy)

The European and GFS model guidance both believe that rain will come late Friday night and into Saturday morning. The disagrees with the NAM model, which believe rain arrives to WABBLES by 10 AM Friday morning. All three models have rain continuing into Saturday, however.

European model guidance for Saturday at 6AM. (Pivotal Weather)

Friday temperatures will again be near normal. Forecast highs are near 47ºF. There won’t be much change in temperature throughout the day as Friday night low temperatures will be around 42ºF.

That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
