The unseasonably warm temperatures and sunshine we enjoyed on Christmas Eve will continue for another day, with the potential for record-breaking high temperatures across WABBLES on this Christmas Day.
Record High Temperatures
Although today will be very similar to yesterday, light, southerly winds will join the party today. This might add just enough to the recipe for record high temperatures.
According to our local NWS Office, The record-high for Christmas Day in Bowling Green is 72˚, set just a few years ago, in 2016. If we don’t cross the threshold, we’ll come awfully close to it.
Louisville is expected to exceed their previous record for Christmas Day, which has been in place since 1893!
Clouds Increase
Mild temperatures will remain the name of the game as we progress through the remainder of the week. With more moisture arriving from the south, a noticeable uptick in cloud cover will arrive Thursday into Friday.
Albeit the cloud cover, temperatures should still achieve the low to mid 60s during the afternoon.
Storm System This Weekend; Cold Follow
There will be practically zero weather concerns until we work through the upcoming weekend. A low pressure system will get its act together over the Central Plains, eventually ejecting toward the Great Lakes.
An associated cold front will advance northeast across the region late Saturday through Sunday. This will bring hit & miss rain chances as early as Saturday afternoon, before chances for the wet stuff, along with rumbles of thunder, begin to climb Saturday night into Sunday.
Behind the cold front, stout, northwest winds will send temperatures falling. High temperatures Monday into Tuesday of next week will be lucky to hit the low/mid 40s.
